St. Louis, Mo., March 14, 2016 – Washington University in St. Louis senior point guard Jordan Thompson was named to the 2016 D3hoops.com All-Central Region First Team and senior forward Amanda Martinez was selected to the Second Team, as announced Monday by D3hoops.com.
A first-team All-University Athletic Association (UAA) honoree, Thompson earned All-Central Region honors for the first time in her career. She finished the season third on the team in scoring (9.4 points per game) while starting 27 of 29 games played at point guard. Thompson recorded 113 assists in 2015-16, and finished tied atop WashU's all-time leaderboard with 442 career assists. She also finished her career ninth on WashU's all-time list with 114 three-pointers made. Thompson's assist-turnover ratio of 2.63 this season ranked eighth in NCAA Division III. She scored in double figures in 14 games this season, and averaged 10.5 points and 3.8 assists per game in eight contests against ranked teams.
Martinez also earned the first All-Region honor of her career after being named to the All-UAA First Team. She finished the season as WashU's leading scorer with 11.3 points per game while starting all 29 games. Martinez also compiled a team-high 87 steals, the third-highest single-season total in school history, and finished second on the team with 5.7 rebounds per game. She scored in double figures in 20 of 29 games, including a career-high 25 points against Simpson College Dec. 5. The 2015 McWilliams Classic Most Valuable Player, Martinez was named the UAA Athlete of the Week Feb. 1.
WashU finished the season with a 23-6 overall record and advanced to the NCAA Sectional Championship for the first time since 2011 before falling at No. 1 Thomas More College. The Bears also won the UAA for the third year in a row and 22nd time in program history with an 11-3 conference record.
