St. Louis, Mo., July 24, 2014 – The Washington University in St. Louis women's basketball team ranked 19th among all NCAA Division III programs on the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll for the 2013-14 season, as announced Thursday by the WBCA. The 2013-14 WUSTL squad posted a team GPA of 3.505.
It marked the first time in the award's 19-year history that Washington U. has made the list. Westminster College (Mo.) topped the Division III standings with a 3.642 GPA. The Bears were the only University Athletic Association (UAA) program to finish in the top 25, and one of just seven programs in the Top 25 who also competed in the 2014 NCAA Division III Tournament.
The WBCA Academic Top 25 annually recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III; NAIA; and junior/community college women's basketball teams across the country that carry the highest combined GPA inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. A team must have a 3.000 or better GPA in order to be nominated by a WBCA-member head coach.
Washington University finished the season with a 24-3 overall record and a 13-1 mark in the UAA. The Bears won the 20th UAA Championship in program history, and made their 25th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, advancing to the Second Round for the 16th year in a row.
