St. Louis, Mo., Dec. 5, 2013 – Washington University in St. Louis senior guard Lucy Montgomery was among the 84 nominees for the 2014 Allstate Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Good Works Team, as announced by the WBCA and Allstate Insurance Company.
In its second year, the Allstate WBCA Good Works Team honors players at all levels of college basketball who represent the sport's finest in the areas of leadership and charitable achievements. The student-athletes nominated for this award embody the true spirit of teamwork and giving back. From the 84 WBCA nominees, a committee will select a 10-member team comprised of five student-athletes from the NCAA Division I level and five from NCAA Divisions II, III and the NAIA.
Montgomery was one of 32 non-NCAA Division I women's basketball student-athletes nominated for the 2014 Allstate WBCA Good Works Team. In her four years at Washington University, Montgomery has been active in numerous campus and service organizations. On the basketball court, she has played in 74 career games and has a .385 career three-point percentage, which ranks tied for fifth in Washington U. school history. Montgomery made 46 three-pointers in her junior season, and is 24 makes shy of entering WUSTL's career three-pointers made leaderboard.
Off the court, Montgomery has been a three-year member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), serving on the executive board the past two years. She led the planning of the first two annual Special Olympics Field Days hosted by Washington University in 2012 and 2013, and also assisted with organizing the 2013 student-athlete formal. This year, Montgomery is also serving as the treasurer of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and as a member of the Washington University Judicial Board. In her freshman year, she volunteered as a Books and Basketball Day Leader, tutoring and playing basketball with local elementary students once a week.
An accounting and marketing major, Montgomery worked with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) to help low-income individuals and families complete their taxes free of charge in the spring of 2013. She also worked as a teachers' assistant for Principles of Marketing in the Olin Business School last year, and was an Olin Peer Ambassador as a sophomore. Montgomery was selected as the 2013-14 Fred Nuesch-Dave Wohlhueter Undergraduate Scholarship winner by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The 2014 Allstate WBCA Good Works Team award recipients will be announced in February. The honorees will be invited by Allstate to the 2014 WBCA Convention and 2014 NCAA Women's Final Four in Nashville, where they will participate in a community project in the city.
