WashU Posts Nationally Competitive Times at Distance Carnival

St. Louis, Mo., March 29, 2019 – Washington University in St. Louis hosted more than 70 universities or running clubs from various regions of the country Friday evening during the first half of the WashU Invite, otherwise known as the WashU Distance Carnival.

The Bears had several standout performances during the night of distance running and hammer throws.

Graduate student Aly Wayne ran away from the pack to a winning time of 35:39.62 in the 10,000m run. The time was close to Wayne's personal-best of 35:26.38 which ranks second all-time in school history. She currently leads Division III with the time. Second place finishing junior Sophie Watterson crossed the finish line in 35:52.43 for a personal-best mark and she is second in Division III, while sophomore Katie Snodgrass ranks fourth in Division III in 2019 with a time of 36:50.05.

Junior Nick Matteucci earned a third place finish in the 5,000m run. He completed the race in 14:27.14 which is the second fastest in school history. Matteucci's time also ranks second in Division III this season. Senior Peter Johnsrud finished with Division III's 14th fastest time this year, 14:52.47.

Senior Brad Hodkinson placed third overall with the second fastest time of Division III runners at the distance carnival. He posted a time of 30:25.11 which nearly missed his career-best time. Hodkinson's time is the second fastest in the country this season. With the time, Hodkinson becomes the sixth fastest performer in WashU program history.

Senior Daniel Tyszka became the fifth best hammer throw performer in Bears history when he placed fourth overall with a distance of 47.67m. His throw ranks 35th in Division III this year.
