Wagner and Matteucci's Record Times Highlight Bears Night

Bloomington, Ind., May 4, 2018 – Senior Annalise Wagner cruised to a career-best and Washington University in St. Louis record in the 800m run as the Bears track & field teams competed at the Billy Hayes Invitational at Indiana University.

Wagner shattered her previously set 800m record by nearly dropping two seconds. She crossed the finish line Friday evening in second place with a time of 2:07.31 and concluded Friday night with the second fastest time in Division III thus far in the year.

Wagner also paired with freshman Sophie Grigaux and sophomores Nicky Althoff and Sara Mesiano to place third in the 4x400m relay. The group's 3:50.75 is a season-best and ranks fifth in Division III this season.

Sophomore Nick Matteucci also had a strong showing among Division I competition with a school record time in the 1500m run. He placed fourth with a personal-best time of 3:45.86 and currently ranks third in Division III runners this year. Matteucci's time broke Josh Clark's record from 2016 (3:46.03). Senior Elvir Sarajlic placed sixth with a time of 3:50.41 which ranks fifth in Division III.

The WashU men's 4x400m relay team placed third. The relay team consisted of junior Jason Singer, classmate Eddie Wintergalen, freshman John Harry Wagner and senior Michael Billington. The pack of four ran to Division III's sixth best time of the year, 3:14.60.

Also posting top-three finishes for the Bears were junior Quin Preston in javelin (second, 52.85m) for the men and freshman Eka Jose in the triple jump (second, 11.65m) for the women.
