Bears Win Three Field Events During Day One of WashU Invite

St. Louis, Mo., Mar. 31, 2017 – The Washington University in St. Louis track & field program captured three first place finishes on day one of the WashU Invitational as all three event titles on Friday evening were attained by the WashU field athletes. 

The WashU women had seven top-5 finishes while the men had four top-5 placements. Earning first place honors were sophomore Heidi Nassos, freshman Anika Boyd and freshman Randy Bentley.

Nassos pole vaulted to a height of 3.60m, a mark that ranks 10th within Division III this season. Sophomore Dominique Meyer placed fourth with a height of 3.30m while senior Natalie Newman and freshman Nicole Thraum tied for sixth (2.70m). 

Boyd placed first in the triple jump by clearing 10.28m while sophomore Sara McCutcheon placed second with a distance of 9.97m.

Bentley was the javelin champion with a distance of 48.49m and the runner-up was his WashU teammate junior Matthew Coe (47.01m). 

Senior Annie Marggraff placed fourth in the 10,000m run with a time of 36:17.20. She finished behind several runners not associated with Division III in route to finishing with the top DIII time this season.

Junior Ezugo Onejeme finished second in the triple jump with a distance of 13.12m while freshman Everett Witt placed third by clearing 13.04m. Onejeme's distance is tied for 40th in Division III. 

Sophomore Rachel Kershner was second in javelin with the 42nd best distance of the season - 34.91m - while senior Betsy Wiener placed third with a distance of 28.53m. Wiener also placed fourth in the hammer (39.12m).
