Wagner Leads Track and Field on Day Two of NCAA Championship


Waverly, Iowa, May 27, 2016 — Sophomore Annalise Wagner raced to a third-place finish in the 800 prelims to highlight the Washington University in St. Louis men's and women's track and field team on day two of the 2016 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.

Wagner ran a 2:10.30 to place first in heat two, while senior Emily Warner posted a 2:10.42 to finish third in heat three and qualify seventh. The duo will run in the women's 800 final Saturday at 3 p.m.

"The goal was to get top two. I tucked in as I did not want to lead the entire time. I made a move and tried to finish strong." said Wagner. "I am so excited. I am not ready to be done running in races with Emily. I am excited we are running together tomorrow."

Senior Maisie Mahoney competed in the heptathlon and finished in 19th place with a total of 4,105 points. Mahoney finished fourth in the javelin with a toss of 36.37m (119-04).

Junior Daisy Ogede, who was ranked No. 1 in the women's 100, did not qualify for the finals after placing 14th with a time of 12:12. Junior Deko Ricketts was scheduled to run in the men's 800 prelims, but pulled out due to injury.

WashU will have six individuals and two relays competing in six events on the final day of the NCAA Championships Saturday. Sophomore Alison Lindsay will be first up in the women's 3,000 steeplechase at 12:45 p.m., followed by the women's 4x100 relay team of freshman Elise Grever, junior Kelli Hancock, Ogede and Warner at 1:15 p.m.

Wagner and Warner hit the track for the women's 800 final at 3 p.m. Hancock and junior Rebecca Ridderhoff run in the women's 400 hurdles final at 3:25 p.m., followed by Ogede in the 200 final at 3:50 p.m.

The women's 4x400 relay team of Hancock, Ridderhoff, Wagner and Warner will finish the meet for the Bears in the final at 5 p.m.

1:15 p.m.: Women's 4x100 Relay (finals) - Ogede, Grever, Warner and Hancock
3:00 p.m.: Women's 800 (finals) – Wagner and Warner

3:50 p.m.: Women's 200 (finals) - Ogede
