Track and Field Hosts UAA Outdoor Championships This Weekend

St. Louis, Mo., April 21, 2016 — The Washington University in St. Louis men's and women's track & field teams are set to host the 2016 University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Championships this Saturday-Sunday at Bushyhead Track.

The Bears will look to finish in the top-two at the seven-team championship meet for the sixth-straight season. Last year, the men's team finished as the runner-up to Emory University, while the women's team also placed second, falling just short of the University of Chicago.

The WashU men are in search of its 18th UAA Outdoor Championship, and first since 2014, while the women are looking for its first conference title since 2014 and 14th overall.

The women's team will rely on junior Daisy Ogede, who raced to three outdoor conference titles last year and was named as the UAA Women's Outdoor Track & Field Most Outstanding Performer in the running events. Ogede anchored the winning 400-relay team and won the 100 and 200 a year ago. This season, Ogede possesses the fastest time in NCAA Division III in the 200 with a time of 24.24.

Junior Kelli Hancock will look to repeat as the winner of the 400 hurdles, as she has posted the fastest time (1:01.60) in NCAA Division III this season.

Sophomore Michael Billington will look to defend his championship in the men's long jump after setting a career-best with a leap of 6.74m a year ago. Senior Josh Clark will participate in his final UAA outdoor meet in pursuit of winning the 1,500 following his runner-up finish last season. Clark has recorded the 10th-fastest time in NCAA Division III this season with a time of 3:51.33 in the 1,500.

The first day of the UAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships is scheduled to get underway Saturday with field events at 9 a.m. Running events are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. On Sunday, the field events will begin at 9 a.m., while the running events will start at 11:30 a.m.
