Swimming & Diving Wins Illinois Wesleyan Invite

Bloomington, Ill., Nov. 23, 2019 –The Washington University in St. Louis men's and women's swimming and diving teams had another strong day in the pool, winning the Illinois Wesleyan Invite on Saturday.  

The No. 5-ranked men's squad tallied 144 points for the victory. Augustana finished second with 101 points, host Illinois Wesleyan took third with 91 points and Principia finished fourth with 52.

Sophomore Kevin Hao picked up two individual victories in the 200-yard medley relay (1:56.66) and the 100-yard freestyle (48.51) and was the second leg in the first place 200-yard freestyle relay team. Hao teamed up with lead leg senior Michael Perry, third leg freshman Nick Rogers and anchor leg freshman Andrei Schwartz to post a time of 1:29.23.

Sophomore Barclay Dale won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 52.63. Senior Jerry Chen, junior Matthew Yang, Dale and senior Peyton Wilson worked together to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:34.73. 

Freshman Mason Kelber collected first-place in the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.57) as fellow freshman Michael Kincheloe won the 50-yard freestyle (22.03). Sophomore Chet Dobson won the 500-yard freestyle (4:52.99) while Senior Vincent Huang took home the top spot in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.20). Freshman Jonathan Ma posted a time of 51.82 to win the 100-yard butterfly. 

The No. 6-ranked WashU women's program dominated as they collected 177 points, host IWU finished in second with 115 points. Augustana tallied 107 third-place points and Principia finished fourth with 55. 

Freshman diver Rosie Finglass won both the 1-meter diving (393.35) and 3-meter diving (401.95) events to start the day for the Bears.  

The quartet of junior Elle Pollitt, senior Stephanie Li, freshman Sandra Meszaros and senior Mollie Seidner won the 200-yard medley with a time of 1:48.86. Seidner won the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.44) while Meszaros collected the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle (54.22). Li also picked up an individual win in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.16.

Senior Catherine Cowin, sophomore Grace Carey, freshman Kayleigh Lewis and freshman Noelle DiClemente closed out the meet with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Together they posted a time of 1:40.73.
