WashU Swim & Dive Posts Seven All-UAA Finishes Thursday

Chicago, Ill., Feb. 14, 2019 – During the second day of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships the Washington University in St. Louis swimming & diving teams combined for seven all-UAA finishes on Thursday.

The No. 6-ranked WashU men's swim & dive team is in second place with 402 points. The No. 9-ranked WashU women's swim & dive team sits in fourth place with 331 points.

The WashU men were led by senior Kevin Van Cleave who took the 200 IM conference title, posting a season-best, winning time and NCAA Division III B cut time of 1:48.32. Freshman Kevin Hao also earned All-UAA honors with a B Cut time of 1:50.76 in the 200 IM, placing third overall.

Van Cleave also swam the second leg of the third-place finishing 400 medley relay team. Freshman Barclay Dale, senior Andrew Pek and junior Chase Van Patten helped the Bears to a time of 3:18.52 while also posting a season-best and B Cut time of 3:17.20 in prelims.

Van Patten, Dale, Pek and junior Peyton Wilson posted a season-best time of 1:22.59 to place third in the 200 freestyle relay. Freshman Rick Reinhard also earned all-UAA honors by placing third in the 500 freestyle with a B Cut time of 4:30.88.

The WashU women posted All-UAA honors in both the relay events Thursday. Senior Lauren Sapp, junior Mollie Seidner, sophomore Sabrina Baxamusa and freshman Grace Carey combined efforts for a second place finish in the 200 freestyle relay, posting a B cut time of 1:34.28.

Sophomore Elle Pollitt, junior Stephanie Li, Sapp and Seidner earned a third-place finish in the 400 medley relay. The group finished with a season-best time and B Cut time of 3:49.30.
