St. Louis, Mo., Jan. 22, 2019 – Senior Brandon Lum of the Washington University in St. Louis men's swimming & diving program was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Lum swam to multiple first place finishes as he swept both the 100 and 200 butterfly distances. He touched the wall in 50.49 during the 100 fly and 1:49.57 in the 200 fly. The latter's time would rank ninth in Division III, but Lum already possesses the second fastest time this season, 1:47.52 which he accomplished at the Denison Invitational. He was also a member of the 200 medley relay winning team that included Jerry Chen, Matthew Yang and Preston Bailey as the group posted time of 1:33.56.
The No. 5-ranked WashU men swam to 10 first place finishes out of 14 events during the dual meet at Division II Truman State. The Bears won the event 170-85.
WashU hosts Illinois State and Wabash Saturday, Jan. 26 at 1 p.m. and will celebrate the careers of 12 seniors prior to competition. Be sure to stay up to date on all your Bears scores and awards by following @WashUBears on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
