
Columbia, Mo., Oct. 5, 2018 – The Washington University in St. Louis swimming & diving program finished in fifth place at the Show-Me-Showdown in Columbia, Mo., at host Division I host Missouri University Friday evening.
The Bears women scored 252 points, while Missouri took the top spot with 709 points. Also in the top-five on the women's side were Missouri State (511.5), Drury University (338) and Lindenwood University (294). A total of 10 women's teams competed at the Show-Me-Showdown.
The WashU men totaled 241.5 points as the Tigers also claimed the top spot on the male side with 674 points. Missouri State (357), Lindenwood (354.5) and Drury (301) also placed in the top-five on the men's side out of 11 teams.
The men totaled four top-five finishes individually as senior Kevin Van Cleave placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke (56.13), senior Brandon Lum placed fifth in the 100 butterfly (49.70), junior Chase Van Patten placed fifth in the 100 freestyle (46.37) and sophomore Matthew Grottkau placed fifth in the three-meter dive (143.70).
The women similarly had four top-six finishes among the primarily Division I field. Junior Mollie Seidner finished sixth in the 50 freestyle (24.49) while sophomore Elizabeth Davidson placed fourth in the one-meter dive (179.50).
The women's 200 medley relay (1:49.44) placed sixth behind the efforts of senior Brooke Ivey, senior Stephanie Li, freshman Grace Carey and Seidner. Carey and Seidner were also a part of the sixth place finishing 400 freestyle relay (3:36.15) when they paired with sophomore Elle Pollitt and freshman Abby Wilson.
