Atlanta, Ga., Feb. 14, 2018 – Senior diver Laura Barber of the Washington University in St. Louis women's swimming and diving team placed fifth in the one-meter dive during the initial event of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships held in Atlanta by Emory University.
Barber earned 25 points for WashU as it sits in sixth place following day one with a total of 37 points. Sophomore Alexa Gault scored 12 points for WashU by placing 15th overall (296.5 during prelims).
Emory (64) leads New York (63) by a single point despite the Violets' Carmen White claiming the event title. Carnegie Mellon (55), Chicago (53) and Case Western Reserve (46) are ahead of the Bears, while WashU finished in front of Rochester (23) and Brandeis (15).
Barber scored a career-best 431.5 during prelims which earned her a spot in the UAA Championship finals. She followed the career-best with a 418.8 mark. Both of Barber's scores exceeded the NCAA B cut set at 395.00, and she qualified for the NCAA Regionals held in San Antonio on March 2nd and 3rd.
The Bears will continue Thursday, Feb. 15 with prelims at 10 a.m. (ET) and finals at 5:30 p.m. (ET) in the 200-yard freestyle relay, 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, 50-yard freestyle and the men's three-meter dive.
