Pitching coach Russell Cooper enters his third season as an assistant coach on the Washington University in St. Louis softball staff.
While assisting head coach Leticia Pineda-Boutté the past two seasons, WashU has posted back-to-back 30-win seasons and made a pair of appearances in the NCAA Tournament. The Bears have also posted a pair of University Athletic Association (UAA) championships, earning Cooper a spot on the 2015 UAA Coaching Staff of the Year.
Cooper has been invovled in competitive softball for 30+ years, including 12 years in the United States. Formerly from New Zealand, he was an ASA All-American pitcher and was an advisor to the Canadian national program where he developed various pitching programs.
Cooper was also an advisor to the Canadian national CANpitch program. He has coached the St. Louis Chaos ASA travel team, earning two runner-up finishes in 16U. Cooper was the pitching coach for New Zealand Junior National team during the 2013 World Championship games.
