Pitching coach Russell Cooper fourth his third season as an assistant coach on the Washington University in St. Louis softball staff.
While assisting head coach Leticia Pineda-Boutté the past three seasons, WashU posted three-straight seasons of 30 or more wins and three appearances in the NCAA Tournament. The Bears also recorded a pair of University Athletic Association (UAA) championships, earning Cooper a spot on the 2015 UAA Coaching Staff of the Year.
He has been invovled in competitive softball for 30+ years, including 12 years in the United States. Formerly from New Zealand, Cooper was an ASA All-American pitcher and was an advisor to the Canadian national program where he developed various pitching programs.
He was also an advisor to the Canadian national CANpitch program, and has coached the St. Louis Chaos ASA travel team, earning two runner-up finishes in 16U. Cooper was the pitching coach for New Zealand Junior National team during the 2013 World Championship games.
