WashU Softball Runs Wins Streak to Seven

St. Louis, Mo., April 25, 2017 – The Washington University in St. Louis softball team posted a 12-0 five-inning win over Greenville College in its final home game of the 2017 season Tuesday at the WU Softball Field in St. Louis.

WashU won its seventh-straight game to improve to 23-11, while Greenville had it six-game win streak snapped and fell to 21-13.

WashU scored three runs on six hits in its first at-bat to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Seniors Hannah Mehrle and Janet Taylor had back-to RBI doubles and then junior Hera Tang added an RBI single to right.

The Bears scored five runs on three hits and took advantage of two errors in the second to build an 8-0 lead. Senior Halle Steinberg drove in two runs with a two-out, two-RBI double to left center.

The Bears had 16 hits in the win, tied for second most in a game this season. Mehrle (3-for-4, two runs scored, two RBIs), Tang (3-for-3, runs scored, three RBIs) and Taylor (3-for-3, walk, three runs scored, three RBIs) had three hits in the victory.

Juniors Anna McKee (three innings, one hit) and Maggie Clapp (two innings two hits) combined to throw the Bears' 10th shutout of the season. McKee picked up the win, her conference-leading 14th of the season.

WashU wraps up regular season play at New York University on Friday-Saturday, April 28-29. Game one is set for 4 p.m. (ET) on Friday.

BEAR NOTEBOOK: WashU leads the all-time series with Greenville, 22-1, and the Bears have won five-straight … Mehrle is two hits shy of setting the WashU all-time record … Mehrle moved into a tie for fifth all-time in runs scored (125) and doubles (41) … Senior Kenzie James had two hits and moved into eighth place (176).
