St. Louis, Mo., March 4, 2016 — Washington University in St. Louis senior pitcher Annie Pitkin is one of 50 student-athletes from across the country to be selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) watch list for the Schutt Sports/NFCA DIII National Player of the Year award.
Pitkin, a first-team all-University Athletic Association (UAA) and all-Midwest Region selection, was named the 2015 UAA Co-Player of the Year. She posted a 20-8 record with a 1.62 earned run average with nine shutouts and 20 complete games.
Pitkin led the UAA and ranked in the top-15 in NCAA Division III in strikeouts (234, sixth), shutouts (ninth) and wins (13th). She posted a 5-1 mark with a save and a 1.45 ERA to earn UAA Championship All-Tournament Team honors.
Twenty-six returning NFCA All-Americans top the list, including four first-team honorees, nine second-team selections and 13 from last year's third team. The remaining 24 members of the group all earned first-team NFCA All-Region recognition last season. There are 24 seniors, 17 juniors and nine sophomores in the group.
The list is a collaborative effort between the NFCA's Division III Head Coaches and All-America committees. The list will subsequently be cut to 25, 10 and then the three finalists that will vie for the award.
