Maggie Ingell Named NFCA National Player of the Week
St. Louis, Mo., March 5, 2014 – Washington University in St. Louis senior outfielder Maggie Ingell has been selected as the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III National Player of the Week, the organization announced Wednesday.
Ingell is the seventh player in school history to be named National Player of the Week, and first since Brooke Hofer on Feb. 27, 2013.
Ingell, who was also named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Player of the Week, hit .833 (10-12) with three doubles, two home runs and eight RBIs in three season-opening wins Saturday at the Warrior Spring Fling in Conway, Ark.
She went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in an 8-0 win over Austin College, and followed that up with a 4-for-4 performance with three RBIs and two runs scored in a 14-1 win over Greenville College. Ingell concluded the record-breaking day by going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs in an 8-0 win over Hendrix College.
The Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III Player and Pitcher of the Week are selected by eight NCAA Division III head coaches representing the eight NCAA regions.
Washington University (3-0), ranked No. 18 in the latest NFCA Top-25 Poll, begins a 12-game Spring Break road trip with a doubleheader at Birmingham Southern College Friday, March 7, at 1 p.m. in Birmingham, Ala.
