Neves Honored as Google Cloud Academic All-District

St. Louis, Mo., May 17, 2019 – Junior Bernardo Neves of the No. 7-ranked Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team earned 2019 Google Cloud NCAA Division III Academic All-District Five Team honors, as announced Friday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

"Bernardo is another gleaming example of what and how a true 'Scholar Champion' looks like and behaves," said WashU head coach Roger Follmer. "I don't recall one time when Bernardo asked to leave practice early or miss a workout due to academic reasons.  Yet, he boasts the highest GPA on the Team and is engaged/focused at every team activity.  Bernardo is a great role model for our current and future WashU student-athletes."

Neves has a 43-15 overall record (21-9, singles; 22-6, doubles) while playing No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles for the Bears. He has a 7-8 record against ranked opponents, including four wins over ranked opponents in singles.

Neves is ranked No. 9 in the Central Region and No. 32 in NCAA Division III in singles, and will represent WashU at the NCAA Singles Championship for the second consecutive season. He ranks ninth all time in school history in wins (137), and is also ninth in singles victories (72).

A two-time Google Cloud Academic All-District and a 2018 Google Cloud First-Team Academic All-American selection, Neves has a 3.99 grade point average while majoring in mechanical engineering and computer science.

To be eligible for nomination to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Team, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore in academic standing with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA, and must be a starter or an important reserve.

Neves is eligible to be selected to the Google Cloud Academic All-America Team, announced June 19.
