St. Louis, Mo., May 14, 2019 — Washington University in St. Louis sophomore Ethan Hillis was named the 2019 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Central Region Men's Tennis Player to Watch, as announced by the Association Tuesday.
Hillis is the second-consecutive honoree from WashU, as junior Bernardo Neves earned the accolade a year ago. The national award winners will be announced on May 20.
Hillis has a 41-12 overall record, including a 25-5 mark in singles. He is ranked No. 1 in the Central Region and No. 6 in NCAA Division III. Hillis was the ITA Central Region singles champion and placed fifth at the Oracle Cup.
He was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Player of the Year, and was also a first-team all-UAA selection at No. 1 singles and second-team honoree with sophomore Benjamin van der sman at No. 2 doubles.
Hillis is 7-2 against ranked opponents, and will represent WashU in the NCAA singles championship.
No. 7-ranked WashU (19-7) advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the 13th-straight season following a 5-0 victory vs. No. 27 Kalamazoo College. The Bears take on No. 3 Emory University on Monday, May 20, in Kalamazoo, Mich.
