Hillis and Neves Remain in Singles Draw at ITA Regional

St. Louis, Mo., Sept. 29, 2018 – Junior Bernardo Neves and sophomore Ethan Hillis of the Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team remain alive in the singles draw at the 2018 USTA/ITA Division III Men's Central Regional held at Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis. 

Neves, the No. 2 seed, defeated freshman Sam Komis of WashU 6-7, 6-4, 6-1, in the round of 32 and No. 16 seed Shramay Dhawan of the University of Chicago 7-6, 6-1 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Hillis, the No. 8 seed and a transfer from Amherst, advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-3 win over No. 30 seed and teammate J.J. Kroot in the round of 32 and a 6-0, 6-3 win over No. 11 seed Ian Yi of Kalamazoo College in the round of 16.

In doubles, the No. 14 seed of Neves and senior Radha Vishnubhotla advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to the No. 1 seed of Tyler Raclin and Jeremy Yuan of the University of Chicago 8-4.

In the University Tennis Rating (UTR) singles draws, WashU has three finalists: freshman Luke Smith (A), sophomore David Buchinsky (B) and Jessie Korovin (C).
