St. Louis, Mo., July 10, 2014 – Washington University in St. Louis won five of six singles matches after falling behind 2-1 to defeat No. 6-seed Johns Hopkins University 6-3 and win its first-ever Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III National Men's Tennis Indoor Championship Feb. 23 at the Mayfield Village Racquet Club in Mayfield Village, Ohio.

Trailing 2-1 after doubles play, Washington U. leaned on its singles play as it had the entire weekend to take control of the match. Freshman John Carswell disposed of No. 19-ranked Tanner Brown at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-2 to even the match, but Michael Buxbaum defeated junior Ross Putterman at No. 1 singles to get the lead back for the Blue Jays.

That was the last lead Johns Hopkins had as the Bears won the final four matches. Sophomore Tyler Kratky won at No. 5 singles 6-4, 6-0 to even the match at 3-3, and junior Kevin Chu posted a tight 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) victory at No. 6 singles. Freshman Jeremy Bush clinched the match for the Bears with a 7-5, 6-3 win over No. 15-ranked Ben Hwang at No. 3 singles.
