Bush and Putterman Fall in Semis at Small College Championships
Fort Myers, Fla., October 10, 2013 – Washington University in St. Louis freshman Jeremy Bush and junior Ross Putterman advanced to the semifinals before suffering a three-set defeat at the 2013 USTA/ITA Division III Men's Doubles Championship Thursday at the Three Oaks Tennis Center in Fort Myers, Fla.
Bush and Putterman defeated Garrett Deguchi and Max Littlejohn of the University of California-Santa Cruz 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 in the opening round Thursday afternoon. The duo followed with a three-set loss to No. 2 seed Andrew La Cava and James Rivers of Whitman College 3-6, 6-3, 12-10 to end its run through the main draw.
The No. 3 seed in the eight-team bracket, Bush and Putterman takes on top-seed Robert Kjelberg and Johan Ljundahl of North Carolina Wesleyan College in the third-place match Friday at 2:15 p.m. (ET). The duo had their six-match winning streak snapped with the loss and is 6-2 this fall.
The USTA/ITA National Small College Championships are comprised of the eight regional champions (and/or at-large selections) from NCAA Divisions II and III, NAIA and Junior/Community Colleges. Bush and Putterman is the ninth and 10th student-athlete in head coach Roger Follmer's 13 seasons to represent Washington U. in singles at the Small College National Championships.
