Platteville, Wis., Oct. 27, 2019 – The Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team closed out non-conference play with a 2-1 loss at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Sunday in Platteville, Wis.
UW-Platteville improved to 8-8-2 with the win, while WashU suffered its fourth-straight loss and dropped to 6-6-1.
With the game tied in the 88th minute, Jack Gentilli capitalized off a corner kick from David Regan for the game-winner.
WashU outshot UW-Platteville 15-7 and had a 7-4 advantage on corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper Matt Martin (3-3-1) took the loss on goal making two saves.
WashU outshot UW-Platteville 4-3 in the opening half, with each team finding the back of the net.
The Pioneers struck first in the 21st minute, but WashU answered right back with a tally in the 31st minute. Junior Will Sproule found the back of the net on an assist from sophomore Nolan Wolf. The goal for Sproule was his third of the season and eighth of his career.
Martin came up big in the 87th minute as Gentilli got free for a breakaway but Martin came out of his box to make the save.
WashU returns home to host Carnegie Mellon University (6-6-1, 2-2 UAA) on Friday, Nov. 1 at 8 p.m. as part of Parent and Family Weekend.
BEAR NOTEBOOK: WashU leads the all-time series with Wisconsin-Platteville 3-1, and the teams met for the first time since 2005.
