Atlanta, Ga., Oct. 12, 2019 – The Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team opened a four-game road swing with a 1-0 loss at Emory University Saturday afternoon in Atlanta.
Alejandro Gomez scored the game-winner for Emory in the 85th minute.
Emory, winners of six of its last seven games, improved to 7-4-1 and 1-1 in the UAA with the win. WashU had its three-game win streak snapped and fell to 6-3-1 and 1-1 in the UAA.
Emory outshot WashU 12-9, but the Bears had the 6-3 advantage in corner kicks. Senior Makio Yamamoto had three shots to lead WashU, and the lone shot on goal by WashU came by sophomore Alistair Shaw with seven seconds left before half.
WashU continues its road swing at New York University on Friday, Oct. 18, 7:30 p.m. (ET). The game will be played at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, N.Y.
BEAR NOTEBOOK: WashU leads the all-time series with Emory, 13-12-9, but the Eagles have won five of the last six meetings … The Bears have allowed a conference-low six goals this season.
