Men's Soccer Holds on for 2-2 Draw at No. 6 Rochester

Rochester, N.Y., Oct. 7, 2018 – The Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team played No. 6-ranked University of Rochester to a 2-2 double overtime tie Sunday in University Athletic Association (UAA) play in Rochester, N.Y.

WashU dropped to 5-4-1 and 1-0-1 in the UAA, while Rochester fell to 8-1-1 and 0-1-1 in the UAA. This marked the sixth-straight contest game between WashU and Rochester that went extra time.

Rochester outshot WashU 14-11 for the game, including 4-1 in the extra time. The Yellowjackets also had an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Sophomore Will Sproule scored the first goal of the contest in the 40thminute after he got the rebound off a header from older brother Ryan Sproule. The goal for Will Sproule was his third of the year.

Ryan Sproule made it 2-0 in the 57thminute after he headed home a long cross from the left wing by sophomore Andrew Brunetti.

Rochester scored a pair of goals in a 4:30 minute span to tie the contest at 2-2.

WashU nearly ended it with eight seconds left in the second overtime but freshman Aidan Ryan's left-footed shot from 20 yards out went just over the crossbar.

Junior Connor Mathes (3-3-1) made a career-high six saves and played the entire contest in goal for WashU.

WashU takes on No. 21 Case Western Reserve Friday at 5 p.m. (ET) in Cleveland.
