St. Louis, Mo., Nov. 28, 2017 – Washington University in St. Louis senior back Chris Rieger and junior forward Ryan Sproule earned 2017 United Soccer Coaches Association All-Central Region Third-Team honors, as announced by the Association Tuesday.
Rieger, a second-team all-University Athletic Association (UAA) selection, started 11 of 15 games played on the back line. He helped anchor the WashU defense that posted five shutouts and had a 1.11 goals against average. Rieger converted 3-of-4 penalty kicks this season, and was second on the squad with three goals.
He started 55 of 64 gamed played in his career, with five goals and three assists. Rieger was a two-time All-Central Region and three-time all-UAA selection.
Sproule, a second-team all-UAA honoree, started all 16 games and led the team in scoring with seven goals and three assists for 17 points. He was seventh in the UAA in goals, eighth in points and 10th in game-winning goals (2). Sproule scored game-winning goals in wins over DePauw (3-0) and Webster (2-0).
WashU finished the season with a 7-7-2 record.
