Waltham, Mass., Oct. 27, 2017 – The Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 double overtime loss at No. 21 Brandeis University Friday in University Athletic Association (UAA) play in Waltham, Mass.
Brandeis improved its overall record to 12-3 and remained in a three-way tie for first place in the UAA standings with a 4-1 record, while WashU fell to 7-6-1 and 1-4 in the UAA.
Alex Walter scored the game-winner for Brandeis in the 109th minute. The win for the Judges was their first over WashU in Waltham since 2007.
Brandeis answered back in the 26th minute when Max Breiter received a through ball and finished from inside the six past WashU senior goalkeeper Colin McCune.
McCune came up big just before half with a save and then the rebound with 14 seconds left was set wide right. Each team had five shots in the opening half.
Brandeis outshot WashU 15-10, including 5-0 in extra time. The Judges also had a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks. McCune (6-4-1) made two saves and took the loss.
WashU returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 29, at New York University. Game time is set for 11 a.m. (ET) at Manhattan College's Gaelic Park.
BEAR NOTEBOOK: WashU leads the all-time series with Brandeis 17-10-3 … The goal for Sproule was his team-leading sixth of the season and 20th of his career … The Bears are 1-3-1 in overtime this season.
