St. Louis, Mo., Dec. 10, 2013 – Washington University in St. Louis senior forward Jeremy Kirkwood and senior defender Nik Patel were each selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Continental Tire NCAA Division III Men's Soccer All-Central Region Second Team, as announced by the NSCAA.
Kirkwood, a first-team all-University Athletic Association (UAA) honoree, started 10 of the 12 matches he played in for the Bears this season. He led the team with 15 points, posting four goals and a team-best seven assists. Kirkwood led the UAA with 0.58 assists per game, while tying for fourth in assists (seven) and ranking fourth in points per game (1.25). He set a Washington University single-match record with four assists in the Bears' 4-0 win at Greenville College Sept. 25, and was named the UAA Offensive Athlete of the Week Sept. 30. Kirkwood finished his career with 17 goals and 11 assists for 45 points in 47 matches played.
Patel, an honorable mention all-UAA selection, started 15 of 16 games played and helped anchor the Bears' back line to five shutouts. He scored the first goal of his career and added an assist to help Washington U. rally for a 4-3 overtime UAA win at the University of Chicago Nov. 9. Patel played in 66 career matches, making 61 starts, and helping the Bears post shutouts in 32 of those contests.
Washington U. finished its season with a 10-4-3 record and a 3-2-2 mark in the UAA. The Bears went 3-0-1 in their final four contests to record their fourth 10-win season in a row.
