Two-time All-American Aaron Thompson enters his second year as an assistant coach for the Washington University in St. Louis men’s basketball team. Thompson will coach the junior varsity team and assist the varsity squad.
A native of Elida, Ohio, Thompson spent the last two seasons as an assistant boys' basketball coach at Mary Institute and Country Day School in St. Louis. Thompson assisted WUSTL graduate Matt Hixenbaugh to a 28-23 record in two seasons, and won the 2011-12 ABC League Championship.
Thompson is one of the most decorated men’s basketball players in Washington University school history, earning 2009 first-team D3hoops.com All-America and 2010 third-team D3hoops.com All-America accolades. He is the seventh player in school history to earn multiple All-America awards.
Thompson was a member of the 2008 and 2009 NCAA Division III National Championship Teams, earning NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team honors twice. He helped guide the Bears to a 103-15 (.866) record in four seasons with three conference championships and three straight trips to the Final Four.
Thompson ranks first in school history in games played (119), second in three-pointers made (289), third in scoring (1,591), fourth in steals (163) and sixth in assists (340).
He graduated from Washington University in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Olin Business School. Thompson works full-time at Edward Jones in St. Louis.
