BEAR HEADLINES – After playing four-straight games on the road, the No. 11-ranked Washington University in St. Louis men's basketball team returns home to host Central (Iowa) on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m. The Bears moved down two spots in the D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll after spending the first two weeks at No. 9.
SANDERS NAME UAA ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Senior forward Andrew Sanders was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week on Dec. 5. Sanders had a season-high 26 points and eight rebounds in WashU's 96-86 win at Alma Sunday. Sanders was 11-of-16 from the field and 4-of-4 from the foul line in the victory. He eclipsed 900 career points in the win, and is 77 points shy of 1,000. Sanders was named the UAA Athlete of the Week for the fourth time in his career.
EDWARDS MOVES INTO TOP-10 – Head coach Mark Edwards picked up win No. 667 in a 77-73 victory over Ohio Northern University Nov. 25 to move into ninth all-time in NCAA Division III in wins. Edwards has compiled a 668-290 (.697) record in 37 seasons on the Danforth Campus.

SCOUTING CENTRAL – The Dutch won their first two conference games after opening the season with four non-conference losses by an average of 15.8 points per game. Central hosts Nebraska Wesleyan in a battle of first-place teams in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Wednesday. A year ago, Central posted a 16-12 overall record and a fifth place finish in the IIAC with an 8-8 record.
Malik Wildermuth (15.7), Kyle Smith (15.2), Seth Wood (10.3) and Jamel McKnight (10.0) score in double figures for Central, who average 80.3 points per game. The Dutch have had early season struggles shooting the basketball: field goal (43.5%), three-point (34.4%) and free-throw (63.8%).
SERIES NOTES – WashU leads the all-time series with Central 4-1, but the Dutch posted an 84-80 win in the last meeting on Dec. 10, 2016, in Pella, Iowa.
