St. Louis, Mo., Dec. 5, 2018 – Washington University in St. Louis head football coach Larry Kindbom was named the 2018 D3football.comNorth Region Coach of the Year, as announced by the website.
Kindbom led the Bears to an 8-2 overall record in the program's first season as an associate member in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). The Bears posted a 7-2 mark in CCIW play, good for third place. WashU upset then No. 12-ranked Wheaton College (Ill.) 17-10 on Oct. 13 for its first victory over a ranked opponent since 2010.
The Bears finished third in the CCIW in scoring defense (22.6 ppg), third in pass offense (322.8 ypg) and first in turnover margin (+8). Kindbom was also named the 2018 CCIW Bob Reade Coach of the Year.
Kindbom's team improved by five and a half games over 2017, a season spent as an independent. The Bears were ranked No. 25 in the final regular season D3football.com Top-25 poll, and WashU's eight wins are tied for second most in a single season in the 122 years of the program.
Kindbom has a 185-116 (.615) record in 30 seasons at WashU, and a 213-146-1 (.593) overall mark in 36 seasons as a head coach. The 213 wins are 18thmost in Division III history.
