Bears Have Six Named to Capital One Academic All-District Team
St. Louis, Mo., November 7, 2013 — Washington University in St. Louis had six student-athletes named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District Five Division III Football First Team, as announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Junior wide receiver Tim Bartholomew, sophomore kicker Alex Hallwachs, junior tight end Chris Levine, junior offensive lineman Connor Meneough, junior offensive lineman Will Thompson and senior defensive lineman Seth Wight each took home the accolade for Washington U.
Bartholomew has started seven games for the Bears and leads the team with 30 catches for 384 yards. He leads the University Athletic Association (UAA) in receiving yards and is also second in receptions and ninth in all-purpose yards (371). A two-time Academic all-UAA selection, Bartholomew has a 3.95 GPA while majoring in chemical engineering.
Hallwachs has served as the starting placekicker and kickoff specialist for the Bears in 2013. He has connected on 4-of-8 field goals and 15-of-16 extra points this season. Hallwachs earned UAA Special Teams Player of the Week accolades Nov. 4 after kicking a game-winning 45-yard field goal in a 9-7 win at Carnegie Mellon University. He is second in the conference in PAT kicking (15-of-16), and third in kick scoring (3.4 p/g) and field goals (0.5 p/g). Hallwachs was a 2013 Academic all-UAA selection and has a 3.72 GPA while majoring in biology.
Levine has appeared in seven of eight games as the back-up tight end and is the Bears' fifth-leading receiver with seven catches for 83 yards and a TD. He hauled in his first career touchdown Sept. 28 in a 31-14 win over Centre College. A two-time Academic all-UAA selection, Levine has a 3.83 GPA while majoring in economics and strategy.
Meneough and Thompson have helped anchor an offensive line that is averaging 19.1 points and 310.6 yards per contest in 2013. The Bears offensive line has allowed just seven sacks in eight games, a mark that leads the UAA and ranks 25th in NCAA Division III.
Meneough has started all eight games at left tackle for the Bears, while Thompson has made the start in all eight contests at right tackle. A two-time Capital One First-Team Academic All-District and two-time Academic all-UAA selection, Meneough has a 3.57 GPA with a major in finance and economics, and Thompson has a 3.72 GPA while majoring in finance and operations and supply chain management.
Wight has started five of seven games played on the defensive line for the Bears in 2013 making 20 tackles, five tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. He leads the UAA and ranks seventh in NCAA Division III in fumbles recovered (0.43 p/g). A two-time Capital One First-Team Academic All-District and three-time Academic all-UAA selection, Wight has a 3.67 GPA while majoring in anthropology and history.
In order to be selected to an academic all-district team, a student-athlete must demonstrate success on the playing field and in the classroom, with academic and athletic achievements taken into consideration. The student-athlete must possess a minimum 3.30 cumulative GPA and be at least a sophomore in academic standing. All six student-athletes will be eligible to be selected to the Capital One Academic All-America Football Team, which will be announced on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
