The duo also helped the Bears ascend to No. 18 in the Top-25 National Poll, as WashU completed a four game sweep of University Athletic Association (UAA) foe Emory University over the weekend. The Red & Green also moved into No. 17 of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Division III Poll. The Bears have won nine consecutive games and currently possess a 16-5 overall record, including 4-0 in the UAA.
Margolin was brilliant in his game one start of the series against Emory, formerly ranked No. 10. He set the tone for the series with a complete game one-hit shutout during the Bears 3-0 win March 31. With the victory, Margolin moved into 10th place all-time in WashU school history with his 19th career victory. He also earned the UAA Pitcher of the Week accolades for the fifth time in his career. Margolin is 5-0 on the season with a 2.76 ERA and his 10.00 strikeout to walk ratio is the top mark in the UAA.
Mintz was also instrumental in the Bears four-game sweep of Emory. The righthanded reliever picked up two victories while pitching 5 1/3 innings of hitless and scoreless baseball. He struck out seven batters while walking just one and did not allow any inherited runners to score. Mintz has held teams off the scoreboard in six straight outings, spanning 15-innings.
WashU will host Webster University on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Kelly Field. Be sure to stay up to date on all your Bears scores and awards by following @WashUBears on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
