Women's Tennis Tops McKendree, 7-1, at Tao Tennis Center
RESULTS
St. Louis, Mo., March 27, 2008 – The No. 27 Washington University women’s tennis team picked up a 7-1 win over McKendree University on Thursday, March 27, at the Tao Tennis Center in St. Louis, Mo. The Bears took two of the three doubles points and swept the five completed singles matches. The No. 4 match was not completed because of approaching inclement weather to the St. Louis area, and the match’s outcome had already been determined.
Freshman Kaylee Cassady and junior Erin Swaller were 8-3 winners over Sara Johnson and Erin Thoman in the No. 2 double match. Also victorious for Washington U. in doubles action was freshman Keadrea Wilson and junior Ania Tchergueiko, who picked up an 8-3 win over Kelly Beiermann and Lauren Szakielo in the No. 3 match.
Swaller was also a winner in singles play, earning a straight set, 6-3, 7-5, win over Maria Occhipinti in the No. 1 slot. In No. 2 singles, freshmen Jaclyn Bild defeated Jenny Mennerick, 6-1, 6-0, and freshman Karina Kocemba was a 6-1, 6-1, winner against Johnson in the No. 3 match-up.
Two other Bears recorded wins in singles action on Thursday. Freshman Kristin Fleming topped Beiermann, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5, and sophomore Stacey Goebel beat Szakielo, 6-2, 7-5, in No. 6 singles.
Washington University returns to action on Monday, March 31, when it hosts Maryville University at the Tao Tennis Center. The match is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. |
