Rosoff's Goal in First OT Leads Bears Into First Place

Senior Caryn Rosoff celebrated Senior Day by scoring the game-winning goal in the first overtime sending No. 16 Washington University in St. Louis past No. 18 University of Rochester, 2-1, on Sunday in St. Louis, Mo. The goal for Rosoff was her 10th of the season and 41st of her career, moving her one goal shy of third place all-time.

Sophomore Emma Brown set up the game-winning goal for the Bears just 4:04 into the first overtime. Brown dribbled through the center of the field and then lofted a pass over the Yellowjacket defense to Rosoff, who flicked the cross into the back of the net for the game-winning goal.

The game-winner for Rosoff was the 12th of her career, moving into a tie for third all-time with MeghanMarie Fowler-Finn (2003-06). Rosoff also surpassed the 100-point plateau in the win, becoming the fourth player ever to achieve the feat.

Freshman goalkeeper Clara Jaques made four saves in the victory, collecting her 10th win of the season. Washington U. outshot Rochester, 11-10, while each team had seven corner kicks.

Senior Becca Heymann gave Washington University an early 1-0 lead as she scored on off a corner kick at 18:10. The ball deflected off a Rochester defender into the back of the net. The goal for Heymann was the 16th of her career, moving her within two of top-10 all-time.

Rochester (9-2-3, 3-1-0 UAA) answered back quickly at 20:23 when Erin Carballo snuck a shot in the upper corner to knot the score at 1-1. Washington U. outshot Rochester, 7-3, in the first half, and had a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Ellen Coleman nearly gave Rochester the lead just three minutes into the second half. She was left alone for a breakaway, and Jacques came out of her box and made a diving save. A minute later, Coleman headed home a cross off the crossbar.

Prior to the game, the Bears honored its eight seniors: Emily Bylsma, Paula Davis, Elyse Hanly, Libby Held, Heymann, Sam Murphy, Rosoff and Carter Schwarberg. This group has compiled an overall record of 59-13-3 (.807) in four seasons on the Danforth Campus, including a 21-3-1 mark in the UAA.

Washington University (10-2-1, 3-0-1 UAA) steps out of conference play on Sunday, Oct. 25, to host Fontbonne University. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Francis Field.

Bear Notebook: Washington University evened the all-time series with Rochester, 10-10-1, with the Bears winning the last four meetings … Collecting its 10th win of the season, the Bears have now registered eight-straight seasons with 10 or more victories … With the win, the Bears moved into solo possession of first place in the UAA standings by one point over Rochester with three games remaining.
