St. Louis, Mo., January 9, 2008 – Washington University in St. Louis had four soccer student-athletes named to the 2007 Jewish Sports Review College All-America First Team, as announced by the publication.
Sophomores Libby Held, Becca Heymann and Caryn Rosoff of the women’s team earned the honor, while senior Elie Zenner of the men’s squad picked up the accolade. Rosoff and Zenner were repeat awardees as they each earned the honor in 2006.
Held, a first-team all-University Athletic Association (UAA) selection in 2007, started 19 of 20 games played in the center backfield for the Bears. She was part of the Bears’ defense that allowed just 14 goals all season, while posting 10 shutouts. Held scored one goal and added three assists for five points.
Heymann, a second-team all-UAA honoree, started all 21 games for the Bears in the midfield and finished second on the team in goals (9) and third in points (20).
Rosoff, a second-team NSCAA All-America selection, led the Bears with 10 goals and eight assists for 28 points. The 2007 UAA Player of the Year, she led the UAA in points and was second in goals scored. In just two years on the Danforth Campus, Rosoff ranks eighth in school history in goals (22) and points (55).
Zenner, a first-team NSCAA All-South Central Region and all-UAA honoree, tallied six points with a goal and four assists this season, and was a component of the Bears’ defensive unit. He was named to the 2007 ESPN the Magazine College Division Academic All-America Third Team, becoming just the third player in program history to receive the honor.
The women’s team tied their all-time best win total with a 17-4 overall record, and won the UAA Championship for the second-consecutive season. The Bears also qualified for the NCAA tournament for the fourth time under head coach Wendy Dillinger, and advanced to the NCAA sectional round. The men’s team finished the season with a 16-5-2 overall record, and advanced to the sectional finals for the first time since the 1995 season. |
