Senior Jaimie McFarlin to Join Bears for Fifth Basketball Season

St. Louis, Mo., April 21, 2009 – Senior forward Jaimie McFarlin of the 2009 NCAA Division III runner-up Washington University women’s basketball team has elected to return to the Danforth Campus for a fifth season, as announced Tuesday by head coach Nancy Fahey.

McFarlin applied for and was granted an NCAA medical red shirt following the 2007-08 season, in which she appeared in just seven games before suffering a season-ending injury. She was leading the team in scoring, 14.0 points per game, and rebounding, 11.3 rebounds per game, prior to the injury.

This past season, McFarlin was third on the team in scoring (7.8) and first in rebounding (7.6) as she earned second-team all-University Athletic Association (UAA) honors. She helped Washington U. capture its 18th UAA Championship and advance to the 2009 NCAA Division III Championship Game.

The trip to the NCAA Championship Game was the second for the Bears during McFarlin’s tenure, and she earned NCAA Championship All-Tournament honors for the second time in her career.

McFarlin will begin the 2009-10 season ranked third in Washington University history in rebounding (748), fourth in blocked shots (122) and 11th in field goal percentage (.492). She is averaging 7.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game for her career.
