FACES IN THE CROWD
St. Louis, Mo., October 30, 2008 – Senior outside hitter Alli Alberts of the No. 4 Washington University volleyball team will be featured in the Faces in the Crowd section of Sports Illustrated, scheduled to hit newsstands on Monday, Nov. 3.
Faces in the Crowd is a weekly feature in Sports Illustrated that highlights six prep athletes from all levels of competition across the country. Alberts is honored for her 50-kill and 45-dig week that helped the Bears capture a 4-0 week and start 3-0 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) and earned her AVCA/Sports Imports Division III National Player of the Week honors on Oct. 7. She was the first student-athlete from Washington University in more than two years to garner AVCA National Player of the Week honors.
A versatile six-rotation player for the Red and Green, Alberts is second on the team in kills (226) and digs (272) this season. She was tabbed as the NCAA Championship Most Outstanding Player for Washington University’s 2007 NCAA Division III national championship team, and was an honorable mention all-UAA selection.
Also a success in the classroom, Alberts, who is a biology and anthropology double major, was named to the 2007 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VII team, and has been an academic all-UAA honoree three times.
Alberts and the Washington University volleyball team (22-6, 6-1 UAA) return to action on Friday, Oct. 31, when it will take on Concordia University at the WU Field House in St. Louis, Mo., at 5:15 p.m.
