Lane Lohr Named Men's Midwest Assistant Coach of the Year
St. Louis, Mo., May 18, 2009 – Washington University assistant track and field coach Lane Lohr was named the 2009 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Men’s Midwest Region Outdoor Track and Field Assistant Coach of the Year, as announced Monday by the association.
Lohr, who is in his third season assisting the Washington University men’s and women’s track and field programs but his first in the capacity of full-time assistant coach, works with the pole vault, hurdles, jumps and sprints, in addition to aiding the WU multi-event athletes. In his first year as assistant coach the Washington University men’s track and field team won its first University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Track and Field Championship since the 2006 season.
The Washington U. men’s track and field team won the 110- and 400-meter hurdles, the 400-meter dash, pole vault and long jump at the 2009 UAA Championships. Sophomore Ben Harmon took the pole vault (4.44 meters) and long jump (7.12 meters) titles, senior Tanner Coghill won the 400-hurdles (52.90), freshman Tyler Jackson won the 110-hurdles (15.03) and junior Iby Umana took first in the 400 (46.98).
Following the UAA Outdoor Championship, the Washington U. coaching staff received UAA Outdoor Men’s and Women’s Coaching Staff of the Year honors. Additionally, the Harmon and Coghill have qualified to represent Washington University at the 2009 NCAA Division III Track and Field Outdoor Championships, Coghill in the 400-hurdles and Harmon in the decathlon.
As a part-time assistant at Washington U. from 2007-08, Lohr mentored four different vaulters to seven of eight possible UAA titles. He also coached Morgen Leonard-Fleckman to the 2008 NCAA Division III indoor national championship in the pole vault, and a second All-America finish at the 2008 outdoor meet.
This year’s NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held Thursday-Saturday, May 21-23, at the Don Drumm Stadium on the campus of Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio. |
