Claire Voris Named Sixth All-American in School History
St. Louis, Mo., May 14, 2009 – Sophomore pitcher Claire Voris of the Washington University in St. Louis softball team was named to the 2009 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-America Team, as announced Thursday by the NFCA. Voris is the sixth student-athlete in school history to earn All-America honors.
Voris, who earned second-team at-large honors, is 19-7 with a 1.08 earned run average in 25 starts for the Bears. She has struck out 206 batters in 174 1/3 innings pitched with 20 complete games and 10 shutouts.
A first-team all-Midwest Region and all-University Athletic Association (UAA) honoree, Voris posted a 5-1 overall record and a 0.19 earned run average with 46 strikeouts in 36 2/3 innings pitched at the 2009 UAA Championship. She also posted back-to-back three-hit shutouts against No. 6 Emory University.
Voris ranks second in school history in strikeouts (397), third in shutouts (16), fourth in wins (34), complete games (36), earned run average (1.49) and innings pitched (323.1), and fifth in games pitched (58).
The Bears concluded their season with a 3-2 record at the Midwest Regional held last weekend in Indianola, Iowa. Washington U. made their eighth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance ended its season with a 27-13 overall record. The Bears also won the University Athletic Association (UAA) title for the sixth-straight season.
