WU Lands Seven on All-UAA Team
ALL-UAA TEAM
St. Louis, Mo., May 2, 2008 – Washington University’s No. 5 ranked men’s tennis team landed seven student-athletes on the All-University Athletic Association (UAA) team, as announced today by the league office.
Sophomore Danny Levy and junior Chris Hoeland each earned first-team all-UAA honors in singles. Levy is 15-5 overall in singles, including an 8-3 mark at the No.3 position. At the UAA Championships last weekend in Atlanta, Ga., he went 2-0 in singles, including a 6-3, 6-3 victory over David Caplan of Emory University. Levy is 41-8 in his career in singles.
Hoeland went 2-0 singles at the UAA Championship, posting a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Patrick Sheehan of University of Rochester at No. 4 singles and a 6-3, 6-3 win over Hardy Ehlers at No. 5. He is 15-6 this season in singles, including a 9-3 mark at No. 5.
Freshman Max Woods and Isaac Stein each picked up second-team honors in singles. Woods went 2-1 at No. 4 singles at the UAA Championship, and is 16-8 for the season. Stein was 1-0 at No. 6 singles, and is 11-2 in his rookie campaign.
Washington U. swept second-team honors for all three flights in doubles: junior Charlie Cutler and Hoeland at No. 1, junior Trevis Bowman and sophomore John Watts at No. 2, and Stein and Woods at No. 3.
Cutler and Hoeland, the No. 3 ranked doubles team in Division III, went 2-1 at the UAA Championship and are 20-7 overall. Watts and Bowman are 8-1 as a duo, while Stein and Woods are 5-1.
Washington University hosts the Central Regional of the 2008 NCAA Division III Championship this weekend at the Tao Tennis Center. Washington U. is 16-4 overall and making its ninth-straight NCAA appearance. The Bears have a bye in the first round and take on the winner of No. 4 seed Grinnell College and No. 5 seed Westminster College at 10 a.m., on Saturday, May 3.
