Men's and Women's Soccer End Seasons Ranked in Top-10
St. Louis, Mo., November 29, 2007 – The Washington University men’s soccer team is ranked No. 6, and the women’s soccer team is No. 9, in the final National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Top-25 poll of the 2007 season. The WU men’s soccer team advanced to the sectional finals of the 2007 NCAA Division III Championship, while the women’s squad played its way to the sectional semifinals.
The men’s team fell to eventual national runner-up Trinity University, 2-1, in the sectional finals on Nov. 18. The Bears finished the season with a 16-5-2 overall record, and advanced to the sectional finals for the first time since the 1995 season.
The postseason finish was the Bears’ best under head coach Joe Clarke, and the team’s 16 victories signify Clarke’s best single-season total at Washington U., and the men’s soccer team’s highest mark since the 1995 squad picked up 16 wins.
The women’s soccer team qualified for the NCAA tournament for the fourth time in head coach Wendy Dillinger’s six seasons on the Danforth Campus, and advanced to the NCAA sectional round for the second time in as many years.
Washington U. tied its all-time best win total with a 17-4 overall record, and won the UAA Championship for the second-consecutive season. Under Dillinger, the Bears also recorded 17 victories and advanced to the NCAA sectionals in 2006 and 2004. |
