Lehmann and Kennedy Named to Academic All-District Team

St. Louis, Mo., May 8, 2008 – Juniors Zander Lehmann and Gregg Kennedy of the Washington University baseball team were named to the 2008 ESPN the Magazine College Division Academic All-District VII team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Lehmann was a first-team selection, while Kennedy was named to the second team.

Lehmann, a psychology major, was the Bears’ most effective run producer this season, starting all 29 games in right field. He led the Red and Green with 29 RBI and three home runs, and was second with 25 runs scored. Lehmann also ranked third on the team in batting (.370) and second in slugging percentage (.540). He had a perfect fielding percentage, recording 71 putouts on the year, and was a second-team all-UAA and an Academic all-UAA honoree.

A first-team all-UAA selection, Kennedy started all 29 games in center field and led Washington University in batting, with a .416 average. Kennedy, an anthropology major, ended the season as the team leader in at-bats (101), runs scored (33), doubles (seven) and stolen bases (six). He was third on the team in slugging (.505) and fourth in RBI (19), while boasting a fielding percentage of .985. Kennedy was also a member of the Academic all-UAA team.

The Washington U. baseball team finished the 2008 season with a 15-14 overall record. It was the team’s 10th-consecutive winning season.
