Lehmann Named to ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VII

St. Louis, Mo., May 7, 2009 – Washington University senior right fielder Zander Lehmann has been selected to the 2009 ESPN the Magazine Baseball Academic All-District VII First-Team, as announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Lehmann, a psychology major with a 3.85 cumulative grade point average, is a first-team Academic All-District VII selection for the second year in a row and is now eligible for Academic All-America consideration. The 2009 Baseball Academic All-America team will be announced on Tuesday, May 26.

On the field, Lehmann has put together one of the best all-around statistical seasons in Washington University history and has cemented himself as one of the top offensive players to ever don a Washington University uniform. He leads Washington U. with a .436 batting average in 2009, and also ranks first in home runs (seven), RBI (29), runs scored (45) and slugging percentage (.722). His current batting average is just 19 points shy of tying the all-time single-season mark of .455.

Historically, Lehmann now ranks in the top-10 in school history in nearly all major offensive statistical categories. He is third in school history in hits (178), fifth in batting average (.376) sixth in runs scored (137) and eighth in home runs (15). He was named to the 2009 University Athletic Association (UAA) All-Tournament Team, and also earned first-team all-UAA honors. Lehmann leads the conference in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, runs scored, and home runs.

Washington U. completed its regular season schedule with a 25-10 overall record, and will learn if it earned an at-large berth into the 2009 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament when the NCAA field is announced on Monday, May 11.
