Bayer, Lehmann and Vom Brack Earn All-UAA Honors
ALL-UAA TEAM
St. Louis, Mo., March 24, 2009 – The Washington University baseball team had three student-athletes earn 2009 Universtiy Athletic Association (UAA) All-Tournament Team honors, as announced by the conference office. Sophomore Matt Bayer, senior Zander Lehmann and junior Nick Vom Brack each earned all-UAA accolades.
Washington U. finished play at the 2009 UAA Championship with a 3-3 record. After dropping their first three games, the Bears battled back to win three-straight and ended the tournament in a three-way tie for second place in the conference standings.
Bayer earns all-UAA honors for the first time in his career after posting a team-high .560 average at the UAA Championship. He had five multi-hit games during the tournament and tallied eight RBI and three runs scored. Bayer had two RBI in each of Washington University’s victories, and was 4-for-5 at the plate in WU’s 8-6 win over Brandeis.
Lehmann becomes a member of the all-UAA team for the third-straight season. He was second on the team in batting with a .500 average over the six games. Lehmann was 13-for-26 at the plate with two doubles, a home run, nine runs scored and four RBI. His best single-game performance at the tournament came in the Bears’ come-from-behind 13-11 win over the University of Rochester when he went 4-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored.
Vom Brack was the Bears other consistent power hitting threat in Sanford, Fla., finishing the tournament with a .389 batting average, but was second on the team in slugging (.667). He is an all-UAA selection for the first time in his career and tallied a home run, two doubles, five RBI and seven runs over five games.
The Washington U. (12-6) baseball team returns to action on Thursday, March 26, when the Bears host Millikin University on Kelly Field in St. Louis, Mo., at 2 p.m. |
