Basketball PA Announcer Wins Local Radio Contest

St. Louis, Mo., March 27, 2008 – The voice of the Washington University in St. Louis men’s and women’s basketball teams will be heard outside of the WU Field House. Bruce Veach, who just completed his fifth season as the Public Announcer for the Bears, won the "Put Up or Shut Up" contest, hosted by KFNS 590 The Fan. Veach will host a one-hour show for the next year.

"I am extremely excited to have won the contest and become the host of a weekend show," Veach said. "The reason I started this was so that I could gain coverage for my favorite teams that the local media overlooks. Now I can give Washington University and my other teams deserved exposure."

Veach will serve as the host for the one-hour show, while Don Jeffries of Barnhart and Roger Sinnott of St. Louis will serve as co-hosts. Veach was crowned the champion of the second annual contest on Wednesday, March 26, at the Hotshots in Ballwin.

"The Washington University basketball family was excited to see Bruce win the radio contest," said Washington University men’s basketball coach Mark Edwards, the 2008 NCAA Division III National Coach of the Year. "Having been a part of the basketball programs for four years, we know what a talent he is behind the microphone.  Washington University looks forward to following his radio career."
