Joe Worlund begins his 33rd year in the Washington University Department of Athletics and third as Associate Director of Athletics. He spent 15 years as the Assistant AD before being promoted to his current position on July 1, 2010.

Worlund was named the Director of Athletics at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, on Sept. 26. His last day at Washington U. will be Oct. 15. 

Worlund is responsible for the planning and implementation of policies and procedures for the effective operation and development of physical facilities, personnel management and budget management. He also supervises and assists assigned staff, coaches and programs.

Worlund most recently served as the tournament director for the 2010 and 2011 NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship held at Washington University, and is in his fourth year on the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Committee. He served as the committee chair this season and was interim chair for the 2012-13 season.

Worlund began his tenure on the Danforth Campus in 1982, serving as the Director of Intramural and Club Sports. He held that position for 16 years before being promoted to Assistant Director of Athletics.

Worlund also served as the Assistant Director of Athletics/Recreation from 1995-98. He spent 12 seasons as an assistant women's volleyball coach at Washington University under legendary coach Teri Clemens.

Worlund and Clemens teamed up to win seven Division III national championships, including six in a row from 1991-96. The program produced eight NCAA Division III Players of the Year and 36 All-Americans during Worlund's tenure. He was also a 10-time selectee of University Athletic Association (UAA) Coach Staff of the Year honors.

Owner of a full coaching resume, Worlund helped guide the St. Louis volleyball entry in the 1986 Junior Olympics and has taught at numerous area camps. In 1994, he served as the local sports coordinator for volleyball at the United States Olympic Festival in St. Louis. He also served as the US Olympic Committee Staff Liaison for volleyball for the 1993 US Olympic Festival in San Antonio, Texas.

A four-year baseball letter winner at Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa, Worlund was selected as the team's Most Valuable Player as a senior. He earned his bachelor's degree in recreation and outdoor education from Graceland in 1980 and a master's degree in recreation education from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa in 1982.
