St. Louis, Mo., Nov. 4, 2019 – Washington University in St. Louis had four student-athletes named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week for their respective sports, as announced by the Association Monday.
Senior Taylor Cohen of the No. 3-ranked women's soccer team, junior Will Hurley of the football team, senior Paige Lawler of the No. 2 women's cross country team and senior Connor Mathes of the men's soccer team each earned the honor.
Taylor Cohen – Women's Soccer
Cohen had a goal and two assists as No. 3 WashU secured its fifth-straight UAA title with a pair of wins at home. She scored the game-winning goal in the 12th minute in a 1-0 win over No. 23 Carnegie Mellon Friday, and then had two assists, including the game-winner, in a 2-1 double OT victory over Case Western Reserve Sunday.
Will Hurley – Football
Hurley had a 28-yard punt return for a TD in WashU's 35-14 win over Augustana Saturday at home. He also had a tackle on the kickoff team, and was also the holder on a fake field goal which resulted in a first down that led to the Bears' fourth TD. In addition, Hurley had three tackles and a pair of interceptions in the win.
Paige Lawler – Women's Cross Country
Lawler won her second-straight UAA individual Cross Country title on Saturday, helping the women's cross country program to their sixth-straight program title. She finished the hilly 6K course with a time of 21:49.76, 22 seconds ahead of second-place finisher, her teammate Sophie Watterson.
Connor Mathes – Men's Soccer
Mathes posted a 2-0 record and a 0.50 goals against average in a pair of victories at home last weekend. He tied a career-high with six saves in a 3-1 victory over Carnegie Mellon Friday, and then had three saves in a 2-0 shutout win on Senior Day over Case Western Reserve Sunday.
