WashU has Four Named UAA Athletes of the Week

St. Louis, Mo., May 6, 2019 – Washington University in St. Louis had four student-athletes named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week for their respective sports, as announced by the Association Monday. 

Sophomore Ryan Loutos of the No. 8 baseball team, sophomores Eka Jose and Caira Watson Haynes of the No. 7 women's outdoor track and field team and junior Nick Matteucci of the No. 14 men's outdoor track and field team each earned the honor. 

Loutos tossed a two-hit complete game shutout with 14 strikeouts in a 7-0 win in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday at Knox College. The complete-game shutout was Loutos' second of the year.

Jose broke the school record in the triple jump with a mark of 12.19m at the Billy Hayes Invitational held at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. The mark is the top in NCAA Division III. She also placed third in the long jump with a leap of 5.75m, a mark that ranks second in school history and eighth in D3.

Watson Haynes took home a third-place finish in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.21 at the Billy Hayes Invitational. The time for Watson Haynes is second best in school history and currently seventh in D3.

Matteucci ran to a school record in the 1500 with a time of 3:45.69 at the Billy Hayes Invitational. He was the lone D3 competitor in the 1500 and placed fifth after breaking his own school record by .17 seconds, a mark he set a year ago at the Billy Hayes Invite. The time for Matteucci is the top in D3 this season.
