WashU Has Three Named UAA Athletes of the Week

St. Louis, Mo., Nov. 12, 2018 – Washington University in St. Louis had three student-athletes recognized as the University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week, as announced Monday by the Association.

Senior Brad Hodkinson of the No. 2–ranked men's cross-country team and junior forward Taylor Cohen and senior back Hannah Menard of the No. 1 women's soccer team each earned the honor.

Hodkinson ran his fastest 8K race as a Bear and claimed first overall at the Midwest Regional Championship on Saturday in Colfax, Wis. His winning time of 24:31.8 was more than three seconds ahead of the runner-up. Hodkinson earned All-Region honors and helped the No. 2-ranked Bears to a third-place finish which resulted in an at-large bid to the NCAA National Championship.

Cohen netted three goals, including both game-winners, as WashU advanced to the NCAA Sectional Semifinal with a pair of victories at home. Cohen found the back of the net in a 5-0 win over Westminster Saturday, and then scored a pair of goals in the opening 10 minutes in a 3-0 victory over Illinois Wesleyan. Cohen leads the UAA in goals (14) and points (35).

Menard anchored the WashU defense to a pair of shutouts in the NCAA Tournament last weekend at home. Menard and the Bears backline allowed just one shot on goal in the two games. WashU did not allow a shot in the win over Westminster Saturday, and then limited Illinois Wesleyan to one shot on goal in a victory Sunday.
